Sponge Homer

Homer H. Hillis, Jr. sponges all kinds of information, business, political and trends. I've been seen on the Sally Jesse Rafeal show with noted trend spotter Faith Popcorn. My Blog will give you an over view of what I'm seeing and reflections on the same.

If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next. It is since Christians have largely ceased to think of the other world that they have become so ineffective in this. C. S. Lewis

I like this and most all C.S. Lewis quotes. Anyone else have a C.S. Lewis quote they like?

Well today is called Black Friday, the busiest shopping day in America. The reports each year get more ridiculous, today reports of Christmas Rage, Stampeding, Outrage over people cutting in long lines at Wal-mart. A nation that is bent on consuming is now consuming itself. Is this the spirit of giving Christ exemplified to the world? I think not! This is a consumption nation gone amok, more and more consumption has now consumed even its own soul. The tools we create the shape us--and now consumption has defined this generation, a generation who has to rent more storage units to store its stuff it owns and cannot let go, mostly JUNK.

I could fill all blogs world wide with what I'm thankful for this week, I've been extremely blessed to live at this time in this place in history.

Here's my list:

1. My GOD! Thank you God for the talents and gifts you've given me and planted in me and your confidence and trust that you have in me being a repository of them. Thanks
2. My Wife! Thank you Ronda for patience to be on this ride with me for 15yrs, for all the twist and turns, for hanging on and allowing each of us to grow.
3. My Precious Hannah Jane! Who gives me great joy to go home and see you full of so much life and energy! For arriving at just the right time to make mid life more interesting!
4. My Parents! For a safe arrival and growing up, for protection and guidance, for fishing and learning to garden. Skills that I will never forget!
5. My fellow team at work, for allowing me to be on this ride with you and grow and dream about a business, and actually create something out of NOTHING every day. To sell stuff that makes people happier!
6. Leaders who have called my talents out and encourged me to be someone I couldn't see in myself, calling me to be better in all area's of my life!

The Power of a mastermind alliance:

Core Concepts:

1.You can't do it alone. To get from here to there, you need other people.

2. Trust

3. Harmony

4. Out of the harmonious alliance of two or more minds, a third or additional mind is created. That additional mind will last

as long as the blending of the individual minds continues to exist. It will disintegrate the moment the trusting alliance ends.

5. The Master Mind Alliance enjoys its greatest strength in diversity of the backgrounds of its members.

6. The law of Compensation: you have to give to receive!

I've been thinking a lot about this CS Lewis quote:

"Put first things first and second things are thrown in. Put second things first and you lose both first and second things." C.S. Lewis

Dr. Kelly Hamby, I attended an inspirational funeral yesterday for truly a great man. One man made such a difference in Zambia that the news of his death was declared on Radio and TV the entire country. One man sparked a vision in people all over the world to focus on Zambia and help the poor. One man recruited countless people to go there and volunteer there summers to do medical missions and feed the poor. I knew Kelly more by my friends and how they were impacted by his life. But now I know Kelly!
The funeral spaned 2 continents via the Internet. Children at the school that Kelly helped participated by singing a traditional song and a prayer was offered by the leader of the school.
The Kingdom of God is much larger because of Kelly: Thank you Kelly for going!

When you're open to ideas on how to market a product you get them at the strangest places/time, just a while ago, I saw a Mexico Yard Metal Vendor with a trailer that
only a Mexican Yard Art Metal Dealer could pack--must have been Jesse's brother. I have a friend who thinks he wants to get into this, I'm trying to talk sense into him but its a challenge.
On the back of the guys trailer is a BIG black/white Sign: SHOP WITH ME and a Cell number
so you call this guy he pulls over anyplace you like and you buy off his trailer,
He's trolling for customers as he drives the roads.
Imagine: We have trailers, we troll down I20, I30, and pray for a traffic jam or we pull over on the access road and stop-
BEAD SHOP WITH ME!
Trolling for customers as you drive:

Dora and the Wiggles

I've gotten to know the Wiggles, the Australian kids entertainers, they do silly songs and captivate the imagination of kids, Hannah loves them as most kids do. I can you hear their old friends they grew up with say, " you just jump around and sing silly songs for a living" well they do----and I'm sure all the way to the bank! They are BIG, world wide. If you don't have a 2-6 yr old you wouldn't know the Wiggle world exist.

Dora the Explorer is seen by 27million kids each week.

A big high for my week is meeting with 2 ACU students around a breakfast table at Town Crier. Each week Dr. Phil Vardiman invites 2 students to meet with me at 7am, we visit about life, ideas, passion, entrepreneurial interest. At the end of the semester I plan to have all the breakfast students over for a steak, an incentive for getting up at 7am.
Meet the Entrepreneur!

Today Peter Drucker died, I don't think in my lifetime a person has had more impact on business than Peter Drucker. I've read many of his books: The Effective Executive is a classic and MUST read for all business people.

"the empires of the future will be empires of the imagination" Winston Churchill

"Creativity is the entire process by which ideas are generated, developed , and transformed into value. It encompasses what people commonly mean

This trend will only increase:
Average weekday circulation at U.S. newspapers fell 2.6 percent during the six month-period ending in September in the latest sign of trouble in the newspaper business, an industry group reported Monday.

Sunday circulation also fell 3.1 percent at newspapers reporting to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, according to an analysis of the data by the Newspaper Association of America.
