Sponge Homer

Homer H. Hillis, Jr. sponges all kinds of information, business, political and trends. I've been seen on the Sally Jesse Rafeal show with noted trend spotter Faith Popcorn. My Blog will give you an over view of what I'm seeing and reflections on the same.

When we bought our place in Fredericksburg in 1997 no Oak wilt existed on the place, in fact it had to be disclosed on the contract, we had none! 8 yrs later its a different story!

Oakwilt is a devestating oak tree disease that kills oaks in a matter of weeks. Last year the disease started at the road and now its encircling our 18 oaks situated around the house. We have oaks here that are over 100yrs old and in a matter of weeks they will lose there leaves, turn brown and dry up.

Two large oaks near our little cabin are in there last days. A tree near our cabin has turned brown and is dying!

Sad so sad. How these trees can be struck down so fast. Why, how, can't something be done? I tried what the Texas Forest Service suggested, trenching. We trenched down to cut the roots off from infected trees but it appears the roots ran deep or the beetle bug spead the fungus.
